Treat Yo Self

I love, love, love the blog called Happy Zombie, who is also known as Monica Solorio-Snow, a quilter and fabric designer extraordinaire.   When she posted this blog post (CLICK HERE TO READ THE AWESOMENESS) it spoke to me in such a way that I could not resist.  I'm also a fan of Parks And Recreation, a really funny TV show, and I also happen to love Aziz Ansari as a comedian.  But the idea of "treating yourself" could not have come to me, via Monica, at a better time.
You see, over in the comic book world, my two projects are both launching at the same time.  It's incredibly busy.  I'm pulling late nights and early mornings.  It's hard work.  But it's also very rewarding.

But what HAVEN'T I got to do lately?  Treat my (yo?) self.  To sewing.  So I sat in my studio one crazy busy weekend afternoon and made this.
Thanks for the inspiration Monica!

Weekly quilts - The X-Men!

I love the X-Men.  I have collected comics since I was 10.  I now work in the comic book industry.  So why has it taken me so long to make these?  I don't know!
Nightcrawler, the mutant who can teleport!

Kitty Pryde, my all time favorite, the girl who can walk through walls!

Wolverine and Storm are still on the worktable.

MOAR MEMES - Keyboard Cat

So yes, the Internet was made for cats and cat memes... and the Keyboard Cat phenomenon from a couple of years ago was a favorite of mine.
Play him off, Keyboard cat!!!
I am likely going to add one of those greeting card recording devices to play the song along with this piece.  I'm having a blast with these quilts...

Weekly Quilt - Meme Cats

Oh, the internet...  I love this cat video.  It's silly and annoying after about 3 minutes.  But it's soooo darn catchy!

That MUST be why I had to make my own, right?  This month's weekly quilt theme is "Meme Cats".  More next week!

New Weekly Quilts for May- Collaborative canvas

Here are a couple of new weekly quilts for May.  I had those lovely canvasses from my class in Cincinnati taught by Jamie Fingal and Leslie Tucker Jenison.  Often, with something as cool as these, you don't want to cut it up afterwards and you end up keeping them forever.  I wanted to use them in this month's themed works. I could not cut up the face I painted, so I used that portion whole.
This one is just an abstract.
I have 2 more coming later this week.  Enjoy!

Star Wars Quiltlet 4- Yoda

Do, or do not...there is no try.
I remember Star Wars in the movie theatre, but the one that stuck with me was Empire Strikes Back.  I was old enough to know what was going on, and the line from Yoda to Luke about moving past that mental block really stuck with me.  I'm the kind of person who "gets it done" in a crisis or stressful time.  Maybe it was because of Master Yoda.
I got the idea to do this lil Yoda in the middle of the class I took from Lyric Kinard back in March. In my sketchbook, above one of my exercises for class, I doodled a little Yoda.   After refining the sketch, I put my fabrics to work.  All of my Star Wars quiltlets are done in Cherrywood Fabrics, those gorgeous hand dyes.  I accentuated Yoda's wrinkles with a grey fabric marker.
I hope you like him, as he finishes up March's Weekly Quilt series, and I'm off to work on all of April and May.

Star Wars Quiltlet 3- Princess Leia

I always wanted to be Princess Leia.  What girl who loved those movies didn't want to be her?  She had a gun, she was a Senator, she told off Grand Moff Tarkin...she was bad-ass!
I have had a lot of fun designing these little Star Wars cuties. I'm starting to think ahead to my next series for next month.  I have a bunch of ideas...

Star Wars Quiltlet 2- Light Up Jawa

This weekly quilt is actually being given away to a lucky friend who likes Star Wars, specifically R2D2 and Jawas.  As I was making light up projects, said friend was encouraging and I thought this would make a great birthday present, which is next week. Happy Birthday!
You can make this with a kit from my shop!  Click here to buy one today!

Weekly Quilts - February's theme

I'm a geek.  I'm also a nerd.  Possibly a dweeb.  But one thing is for sure.  I have always loved Star Wars.  My husband is a bigger Star Wars fan than I am.  And we both love Darth Vader.
This month's themed quilts are all Star Wars!  I hope you enjoy this mini Vader.

Wait til you see the rest! Stay tuned all this month! (I just realized I hadn't posted the rest of the "rabbit" quilts from January! Yikes!  I will get right on that.)
